Number

### Numbers - Multiples, Factors and Primes (1)

If you know your tables and number bonds, this is quite basic! Make sure you know exactly what a Prime number is. ( For example: How many prime numbers are there on the the six faces of a dice? )

### Numbers - Multiples, Factors and Primes (2)

The prime factorisation of a certain number is 32 x 5 x 11.

### Numbers - LCM (Lowest Common Multiple) and HCF - (Highest Common Factor)

The Lowest Common Multiple (LCM) is the SMALLEST number that will DIVIDE BY ALL the numbers in question.

E.g. 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 are all multiples of 3. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 are all multiples of 5.

The lowest number that is in both lists is 15, so 15 is the LCM of 3 and 5.

The Highest Common Factor (HCF) is the BIGGEST number that will DIVIDE INTO ALL the numbers in question.

E.g. 1, 2, 4, 8 are all factors of 8. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 are all factors of 12. The highest number that is in both lists is 4, so 4 is the HCF of 8 and 12.

### Numbers - Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

Converting decimals to percentages is pretty easy really, so don't worry too much about this. Just put it as something over a hundred and cancel it down.

### Numbers - Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

Decimals are just another way of writing fractions —so it's easy to convert between the two... 0.36 = 36/100 = 18/50 = 9/25

### Fractions

Answer the following questions without using a calculator.

### Fractions - Multiples, Factors and Primes

The trick here is picking out the important bits from the sentences and translating them into numbers. It takes practice.

### Fractions in sentences

You can use your calculator for these. Not so difficult but practice being accurate, try to avoid losing marks through making silly mistakes in the exam.

### New Page - Ratios

I don't want to spoil the surprise, but you're going to need your calculator for this bit — get your finger on that fraction button... RATIOS are like FRACTIONS which are like DECIMALS We can treat the RATIO 3:4 like the FRACTION 3/4, which is 0.75 as a DECIMAL.1 Watch out though — this isn't 3/4 of the total: If there are girls and boys in the ratio 3:4, it means there's 3/4 as many girls as boys. So if there's 8 boys, there's 3/4 x 8 = 6 girls.

### Algebra - Formulas from words

Algebra is not all hard. It starts off quite easy. A bit like finding the missing number.
4x = 20 , so x = ?
Algebra is like ordinary arithmetic, but with a letter for a missing number to find.
