To make this sound The tongue should not touch any teeth or other part of your mouth.
This is a voiced consonant so make a sound with your vocal chords.
(Note: In American English this sound is made by curling the tongue up a little
and tensing the open lips forwards. The resulting sound is harsher than British English)
Linking 'r'
If a word ends with the letter 'r' then the
sound is produced to connect strongly with the start of the next word if it begins with a vowel sound.
If the next word begins with a consonant sound then the
sound is not produced. For example:

Intrusive 'r'
There are some dialects of British English that possess what is called an intrusive 'r'.
This was not considered to be quite correct but nowadays has become very common in England.
It can occur between two words that are linked or even in the middle of words with certain suffixes.
